Ebook About “The madness of love is the greatest of heaven’s blessings.” ~Plato Day 1 of senior year at Denwin High was not supposed to end with my thoughts consumed by the new AP Philosophy teacher. I’d impatiently waited three years to take the course, but from the moment he strode in with his sad eyes that mirrored my own, I was intrigued by only him. Dr. Sebastian Wicked. Intrigue turned into obsession, and common interests set the stage for a tentative friendship with the enigmatic man. In time, every line put in place became blurred as what we shared sparked the flames of a forbidden affair. An affair that should've never been, a wrong that the universe sought to right. There was only one possible outcome—we were both going to burn. Would our love rise up from the ashes? Or would it smolder in the ruins? My name is Phoenix Michaelson, and I am the boy who loved Wicked.Book the boy who loved Wicked Review :
This book is my top book of 2021... I can't imagine another author taking that spot. Merge was my top book of 2020.CP Harris is not a prolific author, but is definitely one who goes for quality above quantity. Her books are challenging, engaging, emotional, and just on this side of too much.If you take a step back and look at the book emotionlessly, there's age-gap, some unconventional hurt-comfort, teacher-student, and some other tropes. But the author doesn't rely on the tropes to make the book. They're just situational details. The "other stuff" is what grabs you and won't let you go.Pheeny is, as he says, mature beyond his years, innocent, intelligent, pained, tortured, lost. Bash is troubled, haunted, self-flagellating, lost, and hopeless. The two connect over a common interest and their intellect and passion overcome many of their limitations, but not all. Both have to find a way to grow beyond their limitations, and discover their worth, outside of the experiences that made them. The book will break your heart in the first chapter, put it back together, break it again, and then reassemble it into something indestructible, hopeful, and joyous. The HEA is hard won, but so appreciated because of the realism involved in making the relationship work. This is not insta-love. This is not easy. This is real life on paper. What will you do to fall in love and stay there? And finally... the epilogue. It's not what you will expect. It's amazing. It actually adds to the story. It's not just a gratuitous page or two about extra happiness. It'll hit you in the feels just as much as the main story.Read it. Enjoy it. Immerse yourself in it. You'll love it. This book is not a typical romance book that you should read just for the tropes. It’s so much more than that. This is truly nuanced and breathtaking. To open it up for any other reason than to have an incredible reader experience, is to cheapen the value and craftsmanship of this story. Before we even get in, we are thrown into one of the most moving prologues/openers I’ve ever read. I was in tears by the end of that first chapter. The rest of the book is an absolute page turner that feels impossible to put down. The characters of Phoenix and Sebastian are so deep and real, I felt I could run into them at the store. The side characters are their own incredible feature and never a nuisance, but rather additional features you want more from. C.P. Harris is methodical in her writing and character creation, no word or phrase is arbitrary and everything is painstakingly thought out.My struggle has been to not reread this immediately. This is a Top 5 books of 2021 and only one other book is sitting in that list currently. I am a harsh critic at times, I do not mince words, I don’t have the time nor do I want to develop carpal tunnel unnecessarily. So when I take the time to write a review like this it is because it was that good. It was that powerful. If you’ve seen this book recommended over and over - there is a reason. There is an HEA, which I know is important to many. That’s not a spoiler as the author is clear about that. And the epilogues (because there are multiple) are incredible finishers to an outstanding book.If you haven’t read this yet, I hope this review moves you to. If you haven’t read anything by C.P. Harris yet, then I hope this is the first of many.
